Crocs-o-plenty

Record numbers of salt water crocodiles have forced the closure of popular tourist spots at Australia's World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park near Darwin. Wildlife officials and local aborigines have said the threat to visitors is so great that many swimming holes will be closed indefinitely.

According to one tourism operator (clearly attempting to reassure potential tourists): "A lot of us have questioned the existence of crocodiles in that area, but maybe they really are there." Tell that to the family of a German tourist killed in Kakadu by a croc 2.5 years ago after taking an ill-advised midnight swim [http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/2352669.stm].
