Response to "Stage Right"

In all fairness to Michael Class, I thought I'd call your attention to his lengthy post (and rather blatant self-promotion) in response to my post Stage Right. I took Class to task for his American Values Awards for film (for a list of 2005 winners, go to www.magicpictureframe.com).

Makes sense. Someone proposes an award for movies that tell positive stories...and people complain.

I don't think anyone would complain about the "Movies with Positive Stories Awards". It's the usurpation of "American Values" that people object to. If Amreicans who values the rights of gays and lesbians decided to create awards for gay and lesbian films called the "American Values Awards", I'm sure there would be no shortage of complaints. Why? Because there's rather strong disagreement out there regarding what is and is not an "American value." Duh. . .

I checked the web site today. Class says: "These are movies and TV shows that celebrate love, honor, marriage and family, discipline and commitment, personal responsibility, and the drive for excellence and achievement. These are stories of people making a positive difference, the triumph of good over evil, the triumph of right over wrong, and the triumph of the human spirit over adversity. These are movies and TV shows that remind us to live a life of purpose, and to do the right thing even in difficult times."

I don't see a problem. I think most Americans would say those are American values. Most Brits would, too..say they are our own values.

What's the problem?
