The Olympic Torch is currently in Australia, with runners carrying the flame through the streets of Canberra. To no surprise, there is no shortage of protesters, although things appear to be much tamer than what's transpired in other nations. Some possible explanations:
1) It's Australia (no one can be bothered)
2) It's Canberra (no one's there)
3) Maybe there's a higher percentage of people in Australia that recognise the torch as a symbol of unity, independent of China and its actions on human rights. Hence, if one seeks to protest the actions of the Chinese government, there are more direct symbols to target that don't cast shadows over the Olympics themselves and their intent.

Its not a olympic torch, its genocide torch because Tibetans in Tibet have been tortured and starved to death because of Chinese Communist party's bloody olympics. free Tibet. No torch thru Tibet
Right, right. We all know that every country that hosts an Olympics does so to commit genocide on marginalised minorities. And I'm sure the athletes are all in on it as well. I guess the UK is looking forward to the London games - chance to crack some skulls in East London, eh?
Question is this - which is a more productive path to improving human rights in China: opening up China to the world and making it a more transparent nation or closing it off and letting it engage in the suppression of opposition groups behind closed doors?
